Belize Named “Innovative Destination of the Year” at Caribbean Travel Awards

by Khaila Gentle

With one foot in the Caribbean and the other in Central America, Belize is a hallmark of diverse experiences. Hailed as “two destinations in one” by the Caribbean Journal, the country has been named Innovative Destination of the Year at the magazine’s annual Caribbean Travel Awards.

Innovative Destination of the Year: Belize

According to the Caribbean Journal, Belize is a country that excels at blending coastal Caribbean charm with wild rainforest adventures. “What’s remarkable,” says the magazine, “is how expertly the country has been able to blend the two into a unified, accessible, easy-to-explore experience, one that just keeps getting better and better.”

Thanks in part to its small size as well as a myriad of transfer options (they range from budget-friendly buses and water taxis to puddle jumper planes and car rentals), Belize is a country that allows travelers to enjoy the best of both worlds without much hassle. In fact, it’s more than possible for one to go from the crystalline waters of the coast to the lush jungles of the interior in less than a day.

With that in mind, plenty of resorts and vacation rentals offer travelers the option of booking a variety of all-inclusive packages that allow them to see and experience Belize from the cayes offshore to the jungles in the west and south.

Beyond the experiences, Belize also received praise from the Caribbean Journal during the Caribbean Travel Awards for its digital innovation. Just recently, the country announced the launch of its new digital immigration forms. In addition to reducing the use of paper, the Government of Belize expects the new digital forms to make entry into the country more streamlined.

Meanwhile, Francis Ford Coppola’s Blancaneaux Lodge, found inside Belize’s Mountain Pine Ridge, won Caribbean Small Hotel of the Year at this year’s Caribbean Travel Awards.

“Everything here is intimate, thoughtful, and luxurious,” said the magazine. “It’s a place where you can dive right into the natural wonders that define Belize and savor the property’s particular take on Caribbean luxury.
