Belize & Other Caribbean Countries Report No New COVID-19 Cases

Every day, numbers of the coronavirus cases increase around the world. Thankfully, so does the numbers of recoveries. And while Belize continues in its quarantine order under a National State of Emergency, we are not alone. Response efforts in the region is showing a promising response to #flattenthecurve of COVID19 in the Caribbean. The response efforts continue with increased testing, self-isolating, and personal hygiene despite ever-changing circumstances. Now, Belize stands at 18 total coronavirus cases, but how does that compare to the Caribbean?

With economists from the World Bank, IMF and IDB forecasting a gloomy economic future for the Caribbean region, there seemed to be some good news this week. Overall, the number of COVID-19 cases in most Caribbean countries remain steady. However, a few countries have acknowledged a rise through community spread.

Belize

As of 12:00 PM local time on April 19th, 2020, Belize has reported no more new COVID-19 cases for the 5th consecutive day. Belize’s total coronavirus cases remains at 18, with the most recent case reported on April 13th, 2020.  Additionally, the districts of Stann Creek, Toledo, and Orange Walk all remain COVID-19 free in Belize. Overall, Belize has conducted 762 tests and 744 returned negative. Of the 18 positive coronavirus cases, two cases have unfortunately died.

Barbados

Barbados records no additional coronavirus cases for the 5th consecutive day. To date, Barbados’ total coronavirus tally remains at 75 as of April 19th, 2020.

  • Deaths: 5
  • Population: 286,641 (2018)

Trinidad & Tobago

Trinidad & Tobago recorded no additional coronavirus cases for the 4th consecutive day as April 19th, 2020. Currently, T&T is monitoring active clusters of spread in specific areas. Plus, of the Caribbean, Trinidad is more than 3x Belize’s population.

Dominica

Dominica recorded no additional coronavirus cases for the 12th consecutive day as of April 19th, 2020.

  • Tests completed: 367
  • Recovered: 8
  • Deaths: 0
  • Population: 71,625 (2018)

Cuba

Cuba recorded 32 coronavirus recoveries in 24 hours for the Caribbean on April 18th, 2020. However, their tally is now over 1,000 cases.

  • Deaths: 34 (+2)
  • Population: 11.34 Million (2018)
