Celebrate Labor Day Weekend With a Last-Minute Getaway to Belize

It’s official: the consensus on end-of-summer travel is that there’s still time to book that last-minute getaway you’ve been thinking of. With the summer winding down, many travelers are looking to Labor Day for a last hurrah before the fall rolls around. And with plenty of last-minute Labor Day travel deals to go around—from cheap flights to discounted room rates—booking that long weekend getaway is very much still within the realm of possibility. That stands true even if you’ve been thinking of taking a trip to Belize.

Whether you’re planning on going big with bucket-list-worthy adventures or keeping it laidback, the diverse landscapes of Belize make the perfect playground for a quick Labor Day escape. Head to the Placencia Peninsula, hailed as the “island you can walk to” for a vacation that’s equal parts active and lowkey. Still not sure what to put on your Labor Day weekend itinerary? Here are some activities to consider.

Lowkey: Explore Placencia Village and the Tipsy Strip

The heart of the Placencia Peninsula, tiny Placencia Village sits at the very tip of the 16-mile long strip of land. It’s the place that most often comes to mind when anyone mentions the Peninsula. And, it’s home to plenty of fun, unique, and laidback things to do. Explore the famous Placencia Sidewalk, once the record holder for the world’s smallest street. On it, the ever-popular Tipsy Strip promises plenty of hidden gems to discover, including Tipsy Tuna, a go-to locale for beachside cocktails and delicious eats.

Active: Take a Trip to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary

Waterfalls, natural pools, panoramic views, and more await at the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. Found about an hour away from the Placencia Peninsula, it’s one of Belize’s most popular national parks. It’s also a great place to embrace your adventurous side. Spend the day hiking one of the sanctuary’s many trails. No matter your level of experience, you’re bound to find one that suits your tastes. After, take a refreshing dip at the base of a cascade like the gorgeous Tiger Fern Waterfall.

Lowkey:  Fun and Games on the Peninsula

Head up to Sirenian Bay for some family-friendly fun. Whether you’re staying at this all-inclusive resort or not, take advantage of their 18-hole miniature golf course. Then, after working up an appetite, take your pick from a diverse range of places to dine. Stay close to the mini golf action at Inky’s 19th Hole Restaurant & Bar. Or, visit the Three60 Martini Bar for some cocktails at sunset. Meanwhile, Sirenian Bay’s Beach Grill is perfect for dinner or lunch with a view.

Active: Island Hopping and Snorkeling

Spend your Labor Day weekend island hopping in Belize, soaking up some sun and enjoying the picturesque scenery. Better yet, book a snorkeling trip and explore the country’s underwater world.
