Sea to Shore Alliance merges with Clearwater Marine Aquarium

March 11th, 2020: Sea to Shore Alliance Belize (S2SA) has officially merged with Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving our environment, a commitment that has been in the works for a long time.

Sea to Shore Alliance will now be known as Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute (CMARI). Jamal Galves has been named the Program Coordinator for the Belize Project and is enthusiastic about steering the research and conservation initiatives here in Belize. This also comes with the support of our local Belizean S2SA Board (Shelley Bowen, Tanya McNab, Oscar Arnold, Nicole Auil Gomez) and under the guidance of CMARI Executive Director, Dr. James “Buddy” Powell, who has been working with manatees in Belize since 1997.

Many of you may know Clearwater Marine Aquarium from the Dolphin Tale movies. CMA is the home of Winter, the dolphin with the a prosthetic tail and is also a highly respected organization dedicated to public education and the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sick and injured animals. You can read more about them at www.cmaresearchinstitute.org

For some time now, CMA has been developing strategies for a way to expand their research and conservation work and Sea to Shore Alliance was searching for a partner that could provide a larger platform for their work. Both organizations share many of the same values and aspirations, and have strengths that will complement the other.

Both teams remain wholly committed to the work with manatees in Belize and efforts will continue with even more support under this new partnership.
