Discover Belize Districts

The commercial hub of the country is Belize City; it is also one of the most historically rich locations in Belize, making it a fascinating place to visit. Even though it isn’t the capital, it was once the Capital. When you arrive into Belize, you land at the Phillip Goldson International Airport which is 10 miles away from downtown.

Belize is perfect for the go-slow type of vacation. You can sit on a beach and relax in the islands, or you can grab a book and sit in your private jungle escape where the only other thing you will hear are the birds chirping in the nearby tree limbs. Belize is home to many private islands that not only offer luxurious stays, but takes you away from the hustle and bustle of typical vacation life.

Caye Caulker and San Pedro are not just water sport havens but also bustling towns where socializing is a favorite pastime. San Pedro is the northernmost island and is home to larger hotels and a wider variety of activities while Caye Caulker still remains the charming, fishing village where you can go slow and enjoy the barefoot life, with many places to kick back, relax, and enjoy Belize.

The Belize Barrier Reef is the second largest coral reef in the world and a 180-mile protector of the Belizean coast. Caye Caulker and San Pedro are not just water sport havens but also bustling towns where socializing is a favorite pastime. Enjoy the island life on the main cayes or caye hop and explore the dozens of white sand beaches like Goff’s Caye, Sargent’s Caye and other smaller most often unpopulated islands.

Snorkeling and Diving are available from any island destination such as Caye Caulker or San Pedro, as well as in Belize or any Coastal destinations such as Belize City, Dangriga or Placencia. In 2014 The Great Blue Hole was named in “Top 20 wonders of the underwater world” and it is truly a spectacular site that is beautiful both under the water by snorkeling and diving, or from the air by plane or helicopter.

Charming small towns, lush tropical forests, and the Macal and Mopan rivers await you here. Take some time for there is much to see: lush tropical rainforest, the Mountain Pine Ridge, which is rich with waterfalls, pools, and limestone cave systems, that lead you into the Maya underworld.

San Ignacio is a town in the Cayo District of western Belize, on the banks of the Macal River. It’s linked to the town of Santa Elena by the metal suspension Hawksworth Bridge. Often referred to as the “twin towns.” Choosing San Ignacio as your destination gives you very quick access to some of the most popular Maya Sites of Cahal Pech, Caracol, and Xunantunich.

Among the most popular activities in Belize, this gives you the rush of swinging through the forest on a cable and the ease of floating down the river at the pace of the current and enjoy all the beauty of the caves, flora and fauna that surrounds these stunning locations.

The districts of Stann Creek and Toledo are both rustic and authentic. Here lies the heart of the Afro-Caribbean and Maya cultures. For many, their way of life has changed little. They still live off the land and the bounty of the sea. Dangriga, Hopkins, and Placencia are the main hubs of the Stann Creek District, while Punta Gorda is the capital of Toledo.

Among the most popular destinations to visit in Belize, is Placencia. It is arguably home of the best coastal beach in the country and known for its laid back village vibe. It’s a quaint, charming, low-key fishing village located in southeastern Belize. Bordered on one side by the lovely Placencia lagoon and on the Eastern side by the Caribbean Sea. Placencia is known for having some of the most beautiful beaches in the country and just offshore is a host of Belize’s most gorgeous islands.
