While most visitors to Belize head to the tourist destinations of San Pedro, Placencia Village or San Ignacio, some can’t resist the easygoing charms of Caye Caulker, a gorgeous island off the coast of Belize City. If you want to see Caye Caulker at its best, head directly to Koko King when you get there.

Enjoy the Easy Life on Caye Caulker

Caye Caulker is the place to go when you want true tranquility. There are no cars, high-rise resorts or fast food restaurants. You’re surrounded by stunning tropical colors and bright sunshine.

This tiny, unspoiled island has long attracted backpackers, beachcombers, and divers in search of an affordable beach getaway.

Explore the Unexplored Northern Side

A series of hurricanes “broke” Caye Caulker into two sections. Koko King is on the north side, which is less developed than the southern side. It’s a true beach paradise filled with pure white sand, breezy palm trees, mangrove forests, lizards, tropical birds, and blue water.

If you’re interested in exploring the southern side, Koko King offers a free shuttle across the water. There is no land access between the sides.

What’s Special About the Koko King?

Koko King is also home to the WeYu Boutique Hotel which offers modern amenities and a wide variety of luxury accommodations.
Are you looking for a pure, pristine beach experience? Koko King provides beautiful, comfortable beach loungers and canopied beach beds where you can spend the day relaxing, sunning, reading, enjoying an ice-cold tropical cocktail, swimming or just dreaming the day away.

If you’re looking for a little more activity, Koko King is also a source of rentals and excursions for your favorite water activities on the Belize Barrier Reef. The staff can help you arrange fishing, scuba diving, windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding trips.

When all that running around makes you hungry, don’t miss the great restaurant onsite offering freshly caught seafood of all kinds.

Koko King also has a pool, beach hammocks and a fantastic beach bar where you can enjoy soft drinks, beer, local wine, and Belizean rum.

Spend the Day or Spend the Week

If you’re staying on Caye Caulker, you can jump on the free water taxi offered by Koko King to the northern side. It runs every hour from the dock on the Calle del Sol road.

In the evening, Koko King turns into one of Caye Caulker’s best beachside dance clubs. If you prefer to avoid nightlife, you can head to your hotel on the southern side or back to the Belize mainland. The water taxi to Belize City runs until 5 pm.

How to Get to the Koko King

If you can’t wait to check out the tropical charms of Caye Caulker, you’re in luck. Daily water taxis make the scenic, 30-minute ride to the island from Belize City. You’ll have to take a taxi or bus to the water taxi station in Belize City.

Another option is to fly. It’s a 10-minute flight on local airlines Tropic Air or Maya Island Air from the Belize City airport to the Caye Caulker landing strip.
