What’s on Your Fall Calendar? Here’s Why Belize’s Matachica Resort Belongs on It!

by Larry Waight

Have you ever wondered why fall is the only season that goes by two names? It’s a conundrum chosen by academics at Bellevue University for a research study. And, according to that study, the answer is simple: In the earliest societies, fall and spring weren’t even really a thing. After the U.S. Revolution, however, the name of the season between summer and winter became a linguistic point of contention. It was one of many between settlers and the British as the U.S. looked for specific ways to differentiate words. It seems, researchers found, that the British “hated the word fall,” and to this day, they still use autumn to describe this transitional season.

No Matter What You Call It:

If you missed your summer vacation and have your sights set on the fall months for your much-needed break, you’re welcome to use either word if you choose Belize as your destination. While you won’t need to add a language app to your phone – Belize’s official language is English – you will be required to bring along your flip-flops. That’s especially the case if you intend to visit Ambergris Caye. The nightlife, beach, and attractions draw a record number of visitors to this bustling island every fall – no sweaters or heavy layers of clothing needed!

Wondering where to stay? For an authentic experience that doubles down on tropical luxury, only Matachica Resort and Spa will do. With just 32 casitas and villas, Matachica is an adults-only refuge that makes for an uncrowded fall escape.  Indulge, unwind, and relax at this “private by nature” luxury retreat on the beach in Belize.
