In anticipation of Hurricane Beryl’s projected arrival on the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and Northern Belize, local transport services and other businesses have been announcing the suspension of services for the next few days. At the time of writing, the country’s only international airport, the Philip Goldson International Airport, remains open. When it comes to local transfers, here are the important updates you should know.
Domestic Airlines
Local airline Tropic Air has announced that all flight service will be suspended at the end of day on Wednesday, July 3rd. This suspension, says the airline, will continue until Belize receives the all-clear. Water Taxi Services
Both San Pedro Belize Express and Caribbean Sprinter have posted updates on the suspension of water taxi service for the coming days. Caribbean Sprinter will suspend services today, July 3rd with finals runs to Belize City at 10:30 AM, San Pedro at 1:00 PM and Caye Caulker at 1:30 PM.
Meanwhile, SPBE also announced that it will be having no runs after Wednesday.
Museums, Houses of Culture & Archaeological Sites
The Museum of Belize as well as the country’s Houses of Culture closed their doors in preparation for Hurricane Beryl’s arrival on July 2nd, 2024. They will remain closed until further notice. Additionally, the Institute of Archaeology announced that northern archaeological sites, Cerros and Santa Rita, are closed effective Wednesday, July 3rd.

On Tuesday, July 2nd, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) issued a Phase 1 warning for Belize. This indicates that A Tropical Cyclone MAY threaten the country within 72 hours..
As Jamaica and the Cayman Islands brace for the hurricane’s impact, the islands of the southeastern Caribbean are grappling with Beryl’s devastating aftermath. Beryl will continue on a general west-northwest track today and turn more toward the west between Wednesday and Thursday. NEMO has noted that the system may bring “moderate to heavy rainfall, mainly to the northern parts of the country, starting on Thursday night and continuing through Friday.”
