Whale Shark Season in Belize: When and Where to go

by Andrea Murray

Have you ever dreamed of swimming alongside whale sharks? Well, Belize’s whale shark season is a spectacle like no other. Few destinations offer the rare chance to get up close and personal with one of the world’s largest known sea creatures. These majestic creatures migrate close to the Belize Barrier Reef annually, typically between April and May, marking the prime months for whale shark sightings. These creatures make their way to the warm waters of Southern Belize, particularly to the Gladden Spit Marine Reserve, located off the coast of Placencia. This reserve serves as a critical feeding ground for whale sharks, drawing them in with an abundance of plankton during the full moon.
