by Giulissa Hernandez

While Belize’s beaches become a hotspot in the summer, the country’s fall itinerary just as alluring (and quite diverse, too). That’s true whether you’re a solo adventurer, a family looking for bonding time, a luxury traveler, or someone eager to discover the country’s rich cultural tapestry. Everything from thrilling expeditions to peaceful retreats can all be found within a country that’s no bigger than the U.S. state of New Jersey. Here’s a guide to the best destinations and activities in Belize to suit every travel style this fall.

For the Adrenaline Junkies

Fall in Cayo is particularly exciting, and the district was made for cave exploring, waterfall chasing, and river kayaking. Explore the famous Actun Tunichil Muknal, where you’ll hike, swim, and climb your way through one of Belize’s most sacred Mayan sites. The cave is filled with ancient artifacts and even human skeletons, making it a thrilling (and slightly eerie) adventure.

Want to raise the level of exhilaration? Plunge 500 feet into the darkness of one of Belize’s largest caves, Actun Loch Tunich. This cave rappelling experience is not for the faint-hearted! Those who dare to conquer it, however, get to enjoy some breathtaking views.

Where to Stay: With endless adventure awaiting in the Cayo district, a rainforest lodge like The Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant makes for an ideal stay. This Belize Collection property puts guests in the heart of the action, with plenty of adventure available right on site.

For Families

Families visiting Belize this fall can find the perfect blend of fun and relaxation in Hopkins Village. Known for its sandy beaches and family-friendly atmosphere, Hopkins offers plenty of activities to keep kids entertained while adults enjoy the natural beauty. Hop on a boat to the South Water Caye Marine Reserve, whose crystal clear waters are perfect for snorkeling. You’ll see colorful coral, tropical fish, and maybe even a friendly eagle ray.

Another fun family activity loved by many is birdwatching. In the early mornings, set off on a stroll to spot Belize’s most colorful feathered friends.

Where to stay:  At Hamanasi Adventure & Dive Resort, you can enjoy the best of both worlds. Sitting between sea and coastal forest, Hamanasi offers both land and aquatic adventures.  Kids will love the easy-access beach, while parents can appreciate the dive shop or sign up for jungle excursions. It’s a win-win!
