Belize reopened its international airport for travel and tourism on October 1st. A negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of boarding will “fast track” you upon arrival. While COVID-19 pre-testing is strongly recommended to travel to Belize, it is optional. You can still land in the country without one, but you must still test negative for COVID-19 to enter. In certain states, taking a test and getting results all within 72 hours of travel can be difficult or expensive. Instead, on arrival, you’ll head to the airport’s health clinic for a double rapid test; this is at your own expense, before you then proceed to immigration & customs. Additionally, you must also download the Belize Travel Health app, which has a form that you’ll need to fill out.
Although if you’re a foreign tourist, you must stay at a Gold Standard approved hotel (list found here). After exiting the airport, your rapid test results are delivered to you while at your Gold Standard accommodation. If negative, you are free to roam responsibly! Social distancing and face masks are required in public spaces.
Belize Recommends Exploring its Tourism Safe Corridor
Previously, tourists were limited to remain on property of their Gold Standard hotel (with the exception of tours/activities) for the entire duration of their trip. Now, Belize’s Tourism Safe Corridor will relax, allowing for increased freedom of movement to other Gold Standard approved businesses. This includes external gift shops, restaurants, and tourism sites. While you are staying inside Belize’s Safe Corridor is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended.
Belize’s Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, also outlined car rentals are included within this ease of restrictions, so travelers can rent a vehicle from an airport provider; traveler will need to submit an itinerary to adhere to, alongside a GPS device. Additionally, depending on the restaurant’s square footage, more than ten persons will be allowed inside a restaurant once social distancing is observed; reservations must be ten persons or less. One you test negative for COVID-19, you are free to roam Belize responsibly.
