Belize and Yoga

These two words, together, are enough to invite almost anyone to escape their everyday routine. There’s nothing better than doing yoga while embracing the natural beauty of Belize. Belize is one of the most spectacular places on earth; perfect for relaxing and finding yourself surrounded by nature. Now, with wellness travel gaining popularity, yoga vacations are popping up all over the world.

You can combine the experience of traveling through Belize with yoga that together provides physical, mental, and spiritual exploration and growth while  still allowing plenty of personal time for adventures and relaxation; the makings of a profound and possibly life-changing experience.

Salute the sun at the end of a pier under a palapa situated right over the Caribbean Sea. This is not like any beach yoga you’ve done before. Your heart will sing as you flow through yoga, inhaling and exhaling fresh air, feeling alive wrapped in a warm sea breeze. A great place to slow down, expand your yoga practice, and breathing techniques. Start your day with a massage on the beach.

Revive as you travel  into the depths of the rainforest practicing yoga on platforms situated in the lush green forests, overlooking the tallest waterfalls in the country. Listen to the sounds of birds chirping, relaxing flowing streams below you, and appreciate the crisp air. Be sure to hike down to one of the falls for a swim and try aqua yoga while you’re at it. If you’re new to meditation or find it challenging, this is one location you actually meditate.

Can you envision it? The feeling of spirituality, serenity, and connection, radiated throughout the space. You can get chills as you start, and after a few deep breaths, you feel calm. You can connect yourself with nature at the top of a magical ancient Mayan ruin, with the birds singing in the morning as a soothing background music.

One of the reasons people love to travel is to refresh their lives and experience something new. Part of the journey that you can discover through yoga helps you prepare and open up to the possibilities ahead.  Going to a new place creates an opportunity to see both the world and yourself, in a new light. Experiencing the unknown is a way to grow and learn.

In Belize City, you can find the perfect spot for yoga at Om Shanti Belize – Yoga, Spa & Wellness Center, to relax, restore, and reconnect to your best self. Balance your mind, body, and spirit; stay for as long as you want and learn more about yourself, and your yoga practice, while enjoying all that this little slice of paradise has to offer.

Facts Everyone Should Know

  • Sun salutations  are a common sequence of postures (asanas) done in succession, one flowing into the next. Sun salutations are traditionally performed in the morning to greet the new day.

  • Savasana  is a pose of total relaxation–making it one of the most important, yet challenging asanas. It is most often the final posture in a yoga class. The entire body is relaxed, releasing tension throughout the body. It decreases heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension, and general levels of anxiety. Further, it increases energy levels, boosts memory, and stimulates the ability to concentrate. It also helps to improve sleep.

  • Vinyasa  means “breath-synchronized movement.” Vinyasa yoga incorporates a series of poses that flow from one posture to the next, while connecting the breath to the movements.
