Airlines resuming service to Belize after Airport Reopens in August

Belize, announced June 25 via virtual press conference, will reopen its international airport on August 15 for leisurely travel. That includes stringent rules of engagement visitors must comply in order to stunt the re-emergence of COVID-19 virus; Belize closed it’s borders three months ago in March. Reassured by the Prime Minister of Belize Hon. Dean Barrow, airlines are “ready to resume service once we [Belize] are”.

As of January 2020, service was available from 13 North American cities: Miami, Dallas, Chicago, Charlotte, Atlanta, Houston, Denver, Ft. Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Newark, Toronto, and Calgary. Starting August 15, all arriving travellers to Belize will be put through a number of precautionary measures such as mandatory temperature checks at the airport, numerous sanitising procedures, a COVID-19 test result, and agreement to adhere to a track and trace system.

United Airlines – August 15

Although United resumed weekly charter service to Belize in June for controlled repatriations, the airline is expected to gradually increase service in August. On June 2, United Airlines made an update to the world in regards to its flights, routes and reopening schedules. This included summer 2020 flights to destinations in Central America and the Caribbean, listing 5 weekly flights scheduled to Belize. United resumes service to Belize (BZE) with 5 weekly flights from Houston (HOU).

American Airlines – August 18

American Airlines, which has been blocking half the middle seats in economy since April in the name of social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic, on Friday said it will end the practice on July 1. Alternatively, face masks are still required throughout your entire flight process. Some passengers are exempt from the face covering requirement, such as young children and those with a disability or medical reason for why they cannot wear a face covering. The policy also does not apply while eating or drinking. American Airlines resumes service to Belize (BZE) with once daily flights from Miami (MIA).

Southwest Airlines – Expected to return in 2021

While Southwest resumes service to the Caribbean, flights to Belize is expected to remain suspended as Southwest will operate 35 fewer international routes this winter than it did at the end of 2019.

Delta Air Lines  – Expected to return in September 2020

Delta is expected to resume service to Belize (BZE) with 3 weekly flights from Atlanta (ATL) in September 2020. To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus on airplanes, U.S. airlines have recently cracked down on passengers who do not follow requirements to wear face coverings. Additionally, Delta has already banned some passengers from future travel on Delta for refusing to wear a mask on board.

Sun Country – Expected to return in December 2020

Seasonal Scheduled Flights from Canada

Airlines like WestJet and Air Canada continue to have Belize on their seasonal flight schedule. Seasonal flights typically come weekly and range between fall and spring, depending on the carrier.
