BTB releases Safety Protocols for Overnight Tourism Sector in Belize

by McNab Editorial Team

Released today, June 19th, 2020,  the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) officially announces Belize’s enhanced health and safety protocols.  Within the safety protocols, the join efforts of the BTB, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation outline the requirements for all tourism stakeholders to meet in a post-COVID tourism era.

The document outlines the enhanced health and safety protocols which are being introduced as part of the Government of Belize, the Belize Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Health, and the Belize Tourism Board’s (BTB’s) commitment to keep Belizeans, tourism dependent communities, and our visitors safe from the risks related to Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) that can cause Covid-19.

As more information resulting from ongoing medical research, or the risk related to Covid-19 reduces (or increases), these protocols will be reviewed and revised accordingly.

With more than 40% of Belize’s GDP resulting from tourism, we recognise that the
re-opening of our borders for tourism in a safe and controlled manner must be done using a phased approach.

Known as a top travel destination for the Caribbean and Central America, the Belize Tourism Board expects to see growth within the industry once tourism rebounds. Furthermore, visitors can be reassured of Belize’s commitment to health and safety for the industry, its workers, citizens, and our guests, while promoting a one-of-a-kind vacation experience.

Additionally, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) is actively working with industry partners to market Belize’s natural, and safe, tourism product. Experts indicate when global travel resumes, price will not be the sole determining factor in choosing a vacation destination; instead, health and safety assurances will reign supreme.

Therefore, widespread education of these new enhanced protocols is key to visitors feeling safe to travel to Belize. To this end, the BTB has partnered with McNab Publishing Ltd. (MPL) to merge Caribbean Lifestyle’s Belize Gold Book with Belize’s new Safety Standards to create the Tourism Health and Safety: The Gold Standard for Belize Travel publication.
