Face Masks and Social Distancing
While Belize has seen a gradual relaxation of restrictions during COVID-19, the country continues to implement social distancing and face masks. All these layers are measures of protection, especially with Belize reporting only 21 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of June 15, 2020. Though the international airport was closed on March 23, all citizens in Belize must wear a face mask in public, as of May 1. Social distancing in Belize is observed as 6 feet apart.
Where you need to wear a face mask in Belize:
- In every public place, public space, or public office or building – you must wear a face mask. Or, another covering for your nose and mouth. Children under the age of six years old are not required to wear a face mask or covering.
- As an employee of any business or office that offers services to the public. Or who, on account of their work, have constant interaction with the public.
- On public transportation, for the entire duration of the travel. Additionally, if you are not wearing a mask or covering, you may be subjected to refusal of boarding.
- Inside of Casinos and Gaming Establishments at all times
- For the entire duration of Church and other Places of Worship
Where you can go without a face mask in Belize:
- During exercise or any sporting activity, such as running, jogging, and cycling; persons of the same group are also not required to practice social distancing while swimming
- Inside of your private vehicle
- Open-air restaurants for dining
Belize’s state of emergency will expire on June 30, 2020, and is not expected to be extended. While planning your Belize vacation, expect to pack a face mask too.
