Fish Species and Habitats

In the flats, there are grouper, snapper, bonefish, and tarpons. However, different species are found more in certain months; for example, lobster and conch.  

Fly Fishing 

For those with a preference for fly fishing, there is an area called “Permit Alley”. Here you can find plenty of snook and tarpon throughout the year. Schools of permits are normally around the flats and sandbars. Bonefish can be easily found all year round, but they are found in larger numbers from April to October in lagoons and flats.

In order to fish in Belize, you’ll need a fishing license, which can be ordered online and prices range from $10-$25. However, fishing here comes with some restrictions when it comes to the species of fish. Conch and lobster are only during their open season. Tarpon, permit, and bonefish are only intended for catch and release fishing or sports fishing.
