What’s In a Name

Wondering how this new San Ignacio restaurant got its name? Inspired by Belize’s Maya ancestry, Obsidian got its name from the fact that several pieces of the volcanic rock were found on the property of Falling Leaves Lodge.

While Belize has no volcanoes, obsidian was one of the many precious goods traded among cities in Mesoamerica alongside jade, cacao, flint, and others.
