With just a few months to go before hosting the first-ever World Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality Awards, Belize has outdone itself this year in sister awards program, the World Travel Awards. Held annually, the World Travel Awards aims to recognize the world’s leaders in tourism, including its top destinations. This year, Belize has come out on top in a total of three categories for the Mexico and Central America category. Meanwhile, several Belize properties have also been awarded for their excellence.

While many know Belize for its islands and beaches, the country is also a leader in adventure tourism. From zipping through rainforest canopies in the south to kayaking in the remote Glover’s Reef Atoll, the thrilling experiences afforded by the dually Caribbean and Central American nation are diverse. This year, Belize has been recognized (once again) by the World Travel Awards as the Leading Destination for Adventure Tourism in Mexico & Central America.

The country is also the Leading Dive Destination in Mexico & Central America for the third year in a row. The country had been nominated alongside four other top destinations in the region: Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, and Honduras. Additionally, the Belize Tourism Board has extra reason to celebrate this year, having snagged the title of Mexico and Central America Leading Tourist Board.

In addition to destinations, the World Travel Awards also puts the focus on leaders in travel and hospitality, including hotels, airlines, and travel agencies.  For Belize, the San Ignacio Resort Hotel was named the country’s leading hotel for 2024. Found in the Cayo district, the San Ignacio Resort prides itself in being “the only jungle in town”, offering guests a perfect blend of luxury, relaxation, and adventure.

Alongside the San Ignacio Resort Hotel, Las Terrazas Resort on Ambergris Caye was hailed as the country’s leading resort. Meanwhile, Hopkins Bay Resort was awarded the leading villa resort.

The gala ceremony for this year’s World Travel Awards was held at Sandals Resort in Saint Vincent & the Grenadines.
