Festivals, fairs, and various events are a very important part of Belizean society. It’s either go big or go home for these things, and the National Agriculture and Trade Show is nothing less than that. Come celebrate the abundant agriculture and farmers who provide rich provisions for us every day!

About the National Agriculture and Trade Show

This event first began in 1970 and has been getting bigger and better ever since. It will be on May 1, 2 & 3, 2020, and is definitely the most popular and attended event in the country. It lasts for a total of three days which is filled with excitement and many different experiences.

Where is it held?

In the capital of Belize – Belmopan, this is located about an hour from Belize City. The location is at the National Agriculture Show Grounds (yes, it’s so big they have to make their own event grounds) which sits right at the entrance of Belmopan so it’s not hard to spot.

What can you experience here?

If you are planning to attend The Agric Show, you should try local products and enjoy the Belizean culture. Also, if you are bringing your kids, there would be lots of activities for them too.

  • For the children, they have a real-life petting zoo that includes horses, goats, and others for them to touch and feed. It’s completely safe as there are people around to ensure that the animals are behaving.
  • There’s also livestock judging along with Farmer of the Year (senior, junior, lady farmer) and even the nomination of Miss Agriculture.
  • As well many small businesses and larger businesses that are not in the agriculture field, come out and display their products; offering great deals to customers!
  • One of the main highlights of this event that many people look forward to is the rodeo (not with bulls, but with horses) and the canoe race.
  • Through this entire 3-day event there are plenty of musical and dance performances by Belizeans, and the Agric after bash is something you don’t want to miss!

Why should you come?

This is the perfect way for you to learn and experience Belizean culture. You get to try cultural foods from various ethnic groups and actually see how these dishes are made, for example, you’ll see many people using a “fyah haat” to cook their delicious rice and beans. As well, you get a chance to see many cultural dances from the Mestizos and hear the beautiful sounds of Garifuna drums and music up on the stage. So if a part of your trip is to experience the Belizean culture, then this is the best place to do so and interact with locals.
