CC+L Travel Ideas: Best ways to get to Belize

by Khaila Gentle

With Belize located in the heart of the Americas and just a few hours away from Canada and the US, getting here is a breeze. Even more so because there are countless airlines offering (often direct) service to the country.

Whether you’ve already begun to look at the best local attractions or are just beginning to think about adding Belize to your bucket list, your holiday of a lifetime starts with knowing the best ways to get to Belize.

Book A Direct Flight to Belize

Regardless of what route you choose, all international flights land at the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) in the Belize District. There are at least five US airlines that offer flights to Belize’s PGIA. Looking for nonstop service? Try any of the below airlines and routes:

  • American Airlines: From Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), Houston (IAH), Miami (MIA), or Atlanta(ATL)
  • Southwest Airlines: From Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Houston (HOU)
  • United Airlines: From Houston (IAH) or Chicago (ORD)
  • Delta Airlines: From Atlanta (ATL)

And for trips originating from Canada, AirCanada offers direct flights out of Toronto, while WestJet flies direct from Toronto and Calgary.

Airfare will depend on the season, but you can save some bucks when you book far in advance for your trip.

Getting to Your Destination in Belize

From the PGIA, there are a number of ways that you can get to your destination of choice, whether it’s out east on one of the cayes or deep in the Belizean rainforest to the west. With two local airlines, plenty of car rental options, taxis, boats, and buses, getting around shouldn’t be difficult.

By flying with one of the country’s domestic airlines, like Maya Island Air, you can access a number of local destinations, including Placencia, San Pedro, Caye Caulker, and Corozal.

Traveling on a budget? Don’t be afraid to live like a local and use Belize’s convenient public transportation. It’s a great way to meet people and get to know Belizeans during your stay.
