This time last week anglers were gearing up for the 11th Annual Belikin Blue Water Classic 2019 which took place over two days. On October 12 and October 13th 32 fishing boats participated in the tournament. Being the longest-running tournament for The Belize Game Fishing Association, it continues to remain a popular tournament for avid anglers.
This year the tournament was held at St. Georges Caye. Just 7 miles off the coast of Belize City, one of the closest islands from Belize City, the tournament had a good show of boats come from the City and neighbouring islands such as Caye Caulker, and Ambergris Caye
On October 12, 2019, the tournament began. Rods rigged, ice boxes full of ice and cold beers, all anglers on board, engines on – at 6:00AM the boats headed to their favorite fishing spots in hopes of catching a big one. Wahoo, Dorado, Tuna, and Bill Fish were high one everyone’s agenda.
Day one had a great start with anglers calling in from as early as 7:16AM with their catch! The day ended with plenty of Dorado, Wahoo and Tuna being caught with over 14 boats making the board. The day ended with Captain Roland Alford of Blue Reef Adventures in the lead with a good haul of Dorado, Wahoo and Tuna.
As the sun peeked boats were on their way. A light breeze in the air, calm waters and sunshine, it was another beautiful day for fishing. Lines were dropped at 6:00AM and by a little after 7 the first fish for the day was caught. It was a Kingfish aboard Salt Life by female angler Debbie. Throughout the day more Wahoo and Dorado were caught.
