Shouldn’t every vacation be a celebration? After all, you’re leaving your work, cares, and responsibilities behind. If you’ve been lucky enough to book a holiday at Belize’s Hamanasi Resort, you’ll jump for joy knowing that here, cultural celebrations –  and first-class service –  are simply the norm.

Come any time; a celebration awaits you

Given the diverse heritages that have merged into this true melting pot of a nation,  you’ll find a wealth of opportunities to join the fun during your stay in Belize.

In the spring months, enjoy the country’s unique Holy Week celebrations. Visitors return annually for four-day fests that run the gamut from sports competitions to religious pageantry. Or, celebrate National Heroes and Benefactors Day in March – an ode to all those who have helped to build Belize.

In September, it’s all about celebrating Belize, with the country’s Independence Day observed on the 21st.  During this month, enjoy a plethora of activities—including regattas, carnivals, fishing tournaments, song competitions, and mega-parties.

Of course, one of the biggest, most joyous, and most can’t-miss celebrations, especially for anyone spending time in Southern Belize, takes place on November 19th: Garifuna Settlement Day, celebrating the arrival of the first Garifuna people in 1832. Awash in traditional music, dancing, and especially drumming, this festival of thanksgiving and tradition draws folks from around the world every year. In Hopkins, the heart of Garifuna culture in Belize, expect tons of fun and festivities, including drumming and dancing.

Meanwhile, the year-end holiday season is a fusion of cultural celebrations. It includes Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Eve, so visitors get their fill of celebratory fun, food, pageantry, and more. In Southern Belize, expect to catch a glimpse of the captivating Wanaragua – or Jankunu-,  a traditional Garifuna dance observed during the Christmas season.
