Love Is All You Need: All-Inclusive Romance At The Award-Winning Victoria House

by Carolee Chanona

Being in love is reason enough to celebrate. Traveling with your partner, whether it’s for a just-because-I-love-you or anniversary-celebrating vacation, to an international destination is whimsical, magical, and meaningful. Factor in one (or both) partner(s) never visiting that locale before, and it’s a matter of priceless memories solidified, where new experiences only mold you both closer together. I get it. It’s the sense that the world is a grand sprawling mansion, and you’re now house sitting. Excited about travel and food and most of all, about one another. Although, choosing where to mini-moon can be overwhelming. As travel trends take turns in the spotlight, the Caribbean still personifies most of our most romantic travel fantasies, and there’s one all-inclusive romance package to be keen on. The winner of awards like “Best for Weddings, Parties & Celebrations”, love is all you need at Victoria House Resort & Spa.

The sweet allure of Belize (and San Pedro)

A little backstory. There are thousands of all-inclusive resorts worldwide, with the last tally in the Caribbean being over 250 alone, which means options are seemingly endless. More often than not, the idea of all-inclusive resort drums up images of bland food, obnoxious crowds, and a mindset of just being on auto-pilot. Far from short of character, Belize beats any allegations of being ‘monotonous’ or ‘cookie-cutter’ with just a bat of its eyelashes.

On her Southeastern coast, you’ll find quiet stretches of beach almost 16 miles long, perfect for strolling hand-in-hand. In her humid jungle corners, share a hammock as cicadas synchronize to lull you both asleep. While offshore, enclaves are just a stone’s throw from waves breaking over the Belize Barrier Reef in the form of bustling island towns and private islands. Perhaps Lonely Planet said it best when calling Ambergris Caye one of the best places to visit in Central America: “Dubbed La Isla Bonita (The Beautiful Island), Belize’s most popular vacation island offers sun-drenched days, ritzy resorts, and an imaginative culinary scene.” And if you’re looking for a subdued atmosphere for romance to thrive? We know a place.

An Iconic Beach Beauty

Head 20 minutes south of the airport, where you’ll find Victoria House, a gorgeous, colonial-style property with luxurious suites, casitas, and family-friendly houses facing the water.

Chosen as the winner of the 2021 Regional Award for Luxury Romantic Beach Resort in Latin America by World Luxury Hotel Awards, that means heading 2 miles south of San Pedro Town to Victoria House Resort & Spa. They’ve been doing this for longer than I’ve been alive: 40+ years of service makes Victoria House one of the first-ever resorts in the country.

The property is an iconic Belizean beach beauty on the 25-mile isle, known for its Caribbean blue roofing, stark white sands, and meticulously manicured gardens. Over the years, the resort has grown into a combination of 42 rooms, suites, villas, and casitas alongside other latest addition; the largest full-service spa on Ambergris Caye with a state-of-the-art fitness center and five treatment rooms spring to mind.

It’s the attention to detail that you’ll love thanks to more than four decades in the industry, and all of Victoria House’s awards can vouch.  The service is hard to beat—it’s a luxury resort, after all. So besides the amenities being exactly what you need (ahead of even knowing you did), the service speaks for itself, bar none. Naturally, your budget will naturally impact where you end up honeymooning but opting for an all-inclusive resort can help your money go further—and give you peace of mind when you’re on the trip.

A short cab ride from San Pedro Town and you turn onto a sandy street where, if you’re lucky, Flamboyant trees are in full bloom leading you to the check-in counter. An ice-cold ginger lemonade awaits as you sign off on the paperwork, although there’s also a bottle of champagne waiting on ice inside your room.

Meals are included, as well as snorkeling tours to Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley, a couple’s massage in that expansive spa,  and even a private candlelit dinner. You’ll want to make time for starlit dining; Victoria House’s Palmilla Restaurant is a touch of decadence that’s not just limited to seafood, although it does it very well.

Our personal favorite? Witnessing the destination-wedding-into-honeymoon trope. Victoria House has earned its titles, even having an on-site wedding for vow renewals, elopements, and customized ceremonies. Love sure is lovely, and so is Victoria House Resort & Spa.
