Even after his passing in September 2023, Jimmy Buffet’s legacy lives on through his music, his devoted parrot heads, and the hospitality giant that is Margaritaville. This year, Floridians will be observing the first-ever Jimmy Buffet Day on Friday, August 30th, and Margaritaville properties around the globe will be following suit. That includes Belize’s very own Margaritaville Ambergris Caye, who’s giving back to the community to honor the legend himself.
The Inaugural Jimmy Buffett Day of Service
Margaritaville Ambergris Caye (MVAC) is joining fellow properties around the world to commemorate Jimmy Buffet Day. In collaboration with OCEANA, the San Pedro Town Council, and Miss Earth 2021 Destiny Wagner, the Ambergris Caye Resort hosted a beach cleanup on the island.
This day of service, introduced by Margaritaville International, honors the legacy of Jimmy Buffett and is dedicated to giving back to the community and the environment. The cleanup on Ambergris Caye covered the stretch of beach running one mile north and one mile south of MVAC.

“Every bit of effort counts in this vital endeavor,” said Shawn Marshall, General Manager at Margaritaville Beach Resort, Belize. “This event reflects our dedication to sustainability and community engagement, values that are at the heart of Margaritaville.”
Those taking part in the clean-up were also all treated to free local lunch at the resort.

Margaritaville, found 12 miles north of Ambergris Caye, is also giving back in other ways—offering special local rates for those hoping to find themselves “wastin’ away again at Margaritaville” this summer.
