by Dion Vansen

Young revelers within San Pedro, Belize, and of course from other parts of the country and abroad continue to find this paradisiac piece of the country as a favorite to spend a weekend enjoying the best of the best. With plenty of options to choose from, here we look at some of the most popular places where party goers or adventure seekers visit, when in San Pedro.

Secret Beach

Located 7 miles northwest of San Pedro Town, you must rent and drive a golf cart or hire a taxi service to get up there. Part of the road is paved, but the last track of road to this famous beach can at times be bumpy. Currently, the road is in better condition. The water is pristine and shallow and there are plenty of restaurants and bars. It’s always a party at Secret Beach, however, if you want a slow start, get there before 11 am, before the large crowd arrives.

The Ol’ Tackle Box Restaurant and Bar

Wednesdays are full of revelers enjoying the weekly ladies’ night at the Ol’ Tackle Box. On Saturdays, it’s all about good vibes with happy hour, specials on drinks, and an after-party playing hits of the 80s and 90s, in case you are up for some old-school beats.

Jaguars Temple

This is one of the most popular nightclubs on the island. Located on Barrier Drive, the front street by the central park, Jaguar’s Temple has been the favorite hotspot for young partygoers pursuing nightlife. It begins to get busy just before midnight on weekends; enjoy two separate dance floors, strobe light effects, and even VIP rooms – the latter accessible for a fee.

Palapa Bar and Grill

One of the most popular overwater bars and grills in San Pedro at the foot of the Boca del Rio strip, Palapa Bar & Grill is known for its live ambiance, great food, spacious open-air dining, and its one-of-a-kind delivery of drinks in the water by ‘zipline’. Yes! In the water, while you lounge on their large floating tubes next to the bar. Palapa Bar is a spot to enjoy the stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and the second largest barrier reef while having the best time of your life in Belize.

Vista Rooftop Lounge at Alaia

This is undoubtedly the hottest spot in San Pedro. Not only does Alaia Belize have the only suspended swimming pool in the country, but the bar area and service on top will blow your mind. If you get there early in the evening, you will not only enjoy the view of the Caribbean Sea to the east but also if the sky is cloudless, a stunning sunset as well. With your favorite cocktail in hand, enjoy the panoramic views of San Pedro from the Vista Rooftop Lounge at Alaia. If you are hungry, order some Asian-inspired snacks. While the place may look swanky, don’t be intimidated, and don’t be afraid to ask for one of Belize’s most popular cocktails: rum and coke. Alaia is indeed the spot to pamper yourself with luxury.
