It’s official, lobster fest weekend is here, and the small island of Caye Caulker is preparing to celebrate the Caribbean’s favorite crustacean in a grand way. It’s one of the biggest annual events on the island. And with this year being its 27th iteration, it’s Belize’s oldest lobster festival ever. Here’s what to expect at the 2023 Caye Caulker Lobster Fest.
Pageants, Parties, Paint, and Powder
Starting this Friday, the island of Caye Caulker will shed its typical “go slow” vibe in exchange for three days of buzz and revelry. It all kicks off with the Miss Lobster Fest Pageant taking place at Palapa Gardens with a dance party following immediately after. During the pageant, five lovely ladies will vie for the title of Miss Lobster Fest 2023. After that, put your dancing shoes on in preparation for two days of true Caribbean bacchanal.
On Saturday and Sunday, expect music, food, games, and loads of fun all day (and night) long. That includes an explosion of color thanks to paint and powder parties. Be sure to get your picture taken by the festival’s official photographer, the “Island Bway” himself. Shaquille Rogers of Island Bway Photography will be snapping pics of the festivities all weekend long.
Lobster and Libations
Of course, it’s not a lobster fest without mouthwatering food. Savor the flavors of Belize at the Caye Caulker Lobster Fest through an eclectic array of dishes and food vendors. Grilled lobster, lobster dip, lobster dogs, lobster tacos, curry lobster, stew lobster, lobster pies, and so much more awaits.
Pair it with a refreshing Travellers liquors cocktail, a mocktail, or an ice-cold Belikin beer. Regardless, there will be more than enough delectable dishes for festivalgoers to fuel up after some island exploration.
Also on the lineup for this weekend’s festivities are live performances at Palapa Gardens (found on the way to the split). The legendary Supa G and the TLC band are both slated to take the stage. On Sunday, expect thrilling lobster competitions, including one for the biggest lobster.
Whether by water taxi or by puddle jumper flight, countless travelers have their sights set on Caye Caulker for the Lobster Fest weekend. Will you be there?
