3 Drink Recipes with Travellers Liquors to Warm You Up This December

by Gisselle Hernandez

As the year comes to a close, we crave relaxation and warmth. Whether it be decompressing in a cozy blanket or nursing a warm drink. The brunt of winter may be non-existent in Belize, but we do know a thing or two about drinks that warm you up. Collecting an impressive number of awards over the past twenty years, Travellers Liquors Ltd. is the foundation of many Belizean cocktails. When the sugar industry in Belize boomed, so did rum manufacturing, and Travellers founder Don Omario sought to provide the best blends of flavors. Fast forward 50 years and here we are, still tasting Don Omario’s masterful recipes and cocktails that withstand time. If you’re looking for some drinks that will warm you up inside and out, below are three recipes perfect for a crisp December day.

Belizean Breeze

Consisting of two different Travellers products, this cocktail creates an enticing fusion of rum, wine, and fruit punch. While the name may be popular, it seems many bartenders or cocktail enthusiasts have a different idea of what this drink entails. You’ll find this recipe hard not to fall in love with. Ever thought of mixing rum and wine together? Innovative Travellers Liquors is always one step ahead. Combining their Cristal Lite Parrot Rum and Blackberry Wine makes for the best cure for a long winter day. Add soda water for some tang and you’ve got your new favorite evening drink when walking the shores of Placencia. Make it at home, or order on a stop-in at Tipsy Tuna Bar & Grill during your beach amble.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Parrot White Rum
  • 1 oz Fruit Punch
  • 1 oz BlackBerry Wine
  • 1 oz Soda Water

Instructions: Combine ingredients, serve in a tall glass, and enjoy!

CranBarrel

Travellers Liquors’ most treasured rum yet, One Barrel has been bringing home awards since 1990. It won the gold medal for Best Aged Rum in 2019, and for good reason. This dark rum goes down effortlessly. Its recipe is simple, containing only two ingredients. Cranberry juice and rum may be a common pair, but you haven’t tasted anything if not Travellers’ One Barrel Rum. As easy as the combination might be, the taste does wonders to buzz your taste buds. Call yourself a practicing bartender by learning this basic recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz One Barrel dark rum
  • 2 oz fresh cranberry juice

Instructions: Pour the dark rum over ice and top it off with fresh cranberry juice.

Maya Coco Rumpopo

rum popo / egg nog

Sometimes called Superior Rumpopo, you don’t even have to worry about crafting your own labor-intensive rum popo for this drink. Travellers have got that covered. Mrs. Perla Perdomo, a key figure who developed many products at Travellers, created her Special Rumpope. Travellers Liquors now distributes it every holiday season. Mixing her heartwarming creation with other mouthwatering flavors has resulted in a perfect holiday concoction. Rumpopo, coffee liqueur, and cream. This drink is half-creamy and half-addicting, the ideal choice for coffee lovers who like a little kick of rum while watching the San Pedro holiday boat parade pass by off the coast of Ambergris Caye. Indulge in this rich and smooth drink and make it your holiday go-to.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Travellers Rumpope
  • 1 oz Kahlua
  • 1 oz Cream or Milk

Instructions: Mix ingredients well together and serve over ice or to spike your coffee.
