4 Reasons You Should Visit Belize during the Festive Season

by Khaila Gentle

The festive season is fast approaching, and with it comes the question of how you’re going to be spending the holidays. Whether you’re looking for a way to make this festive season as memorable as possible or just someplace fun to take the entire family, Belize has definitely got the answer.

From delectable dishes to unique cultural displays, here are four reasons you should visit Belize during the holidays.

1.The Food

Belizean food at any time of the year is a delicacy, but Belizean food during the holidays? Mouthwatering, to say the least! Enjoy a wide range of seasonal dishes from various cultures that run the gamut from soups to desserts. Among our favorites is White Relleno—a hearty family-style soup often eaten on New Year’s Eve that includes a whole chicken stuffed with pork or beef.

There’s also the traditional turkey dinner, complete with cranberry sauce and all the other trimmings that most are familiar with. Top that off with Christmas cake or black fruit cake, and you’ve got a festive season feast like none other. (And don’t even get us started on the rum popo/eggnog.)

2.The Weather

There’s a reason Belize’s high season begins just in time for the holidays. The end of November marks the end of the country’s hurricane season, which means a lot less grey clouds and a lot more sunshine and clear skies. Minimal rain and just-right temperatures make for the perfect escape from harsh winter months.

3. The Parties

From tree lightings to dances, there’s no shortage of things to do during the festive season all across the globe, and Belize is no exception. Spend some time on the mainland and witness the widely anticipated holiday parades, or venture out to the cayes for New Year’s Eve parties at some of the country’s most beloved bars, pubs, and restaurants.

4.The Traditions

The Caribbean is teeming with culture, as is Central America. And when it comes to the two regions, Belize is—quite literally—the best of both worlds. It’s described as a melting pot of culture. And, there are countless cultural experiences to be had year-round in this small nation. That includes during the festive season.

Most notable are the Wanaragua or “Jankunu” dance, performed by Garinagu dancers, and the Christmas Bram, where Belizeans usher in the holidays with dancing, singing, and merriment like none other.

It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for some respite from the cold winter weather or just somewhere to kick back and relax with the family this festive season. You’re sure to find what you’re looking for right here in Belize. Ready to book your next trip?
