With the Covid 19 coronavirus at the forefront of everyone’s mind, you might be wondering how Belize is faring if you have travel plans here soon. In fact, there are no cases of Covid 19 coronavirus in Belize, and the government is taking proactive measures to keep it that way.

Covid 19 In Mexico

The new coronavirus has shown up in Mexico, which is close to Belize. The Ministry of Health in Belize is aware of those cases. The cases in Mexico were both due to victims traveling to Italy, which currently has the highest number of outbreaks outside of Asia. The Ministry has also confirmed with Mexico that both victims are doing relatively well and appear to only have a mild version of the virus. One patient is located at a hospital and the other is being isolated at a hotel. The Mexican government is also cautioning people to stay calm and to avoid spreading paranoia and panic in connection with the coronavirus cases.

Belize Preventive Measures

The Ministry of Health in Belize is currently taking plenty of proactive measures to keep cases from showing up in Belize. One such measure is spreading proven strategies to minimize infection. Some of these strategies are as follows:

  • Covering the mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing or coughing
  • Covering the mouth with the inside of the elbow when no tissue is available
  • Avoiding contact with people who have flu-like symptoms
  • Disinfecting common surfaces
  • Avoiding sharing personal items

Those who have traveled to places with cases of Covid-19 are encouraged to monitor their health status. Anyone with symptoms such as fever, coughing or respiratory distress are encouraged to seek immediate medical attention.

Covid 19 Advisory

The Office of the Director of Health Services in Belize also issued a statement about the coronavirus. The statement mainly addresses the way an outbreak can become complicated if proper procedures aren’t followed. Panic and fear are the main things to be avoided. Both are triggered by false information and exaggerated news. Many rumors get spread in such situations, which can further exacerbate panic and fear.

For those traveling to Belize, it’s good news to realize that the government is resisting any spread of false information or fear-mongering rumors. They are keeping an eye on cases nearby and are prepared to act accordingly. Further, the government has also diligently spread real information to Belize citizens on how to protect themselves.
