Throughout the year Belize hosts several events and festivals that are anticipated by many. Each year they only get bigger and better, making it the perfect opportunity for you to visit and experience Belizean and the Caribbean culture. The best part of this is the amount of different foods you get to try and the people you get to meet. To make it easier for you, below we have a list of events and festivals, and the foods you must try!
Festivals
Street Art Festival
This annual festival brings downtown Belize City to life with colorful paintings and sidewalk art, music and dance performances, fashion shows, and much more. It brings together all Belizean artists whether they are musicians, performers, photographers, painters, tattoo artists, or graphic designers. It will be held on February 29th, 2020 in Belize City from 12 noon to 10 PM. You can enjoy live entertainment by jankunu dancers, pandemonium and much more. You can also try amazing burgers from Miss Deb’s Food Truck or authentic rice and beans and stew chicken from other locals.
Lobster Fest
A food festival held in June and July to celebrate the opening of Belize’s lobster season. If you enjoy fishing or just enjoy eating seafood, this is the best time to come as there’s lobster cooked in a variety of ways for you to try (grilled lobster, lobster ceviche, chowder and more). This festival is held during three different weekends at Caye Caulker, San Pedro, and Placencia.
Costa Maya Int’l Festival
One of the biggest festival weekends in the country (4 days) that so many Belizeans and others from Central America look forward to. The purpose of this is to showcase the modern Mayan culture. It will be held on July 31st – August 2nd in Ambergris Caye. It involves the Miss Costa Maya Pageant and a ton of beach parties over the next few days.
Chocolate (Cacao) Festival
Indulge your taste buds in rich, organic, handmade chocolate creations from our locals. This festival includes the premiere of Belikin’s Chocolate stout, various chocolate desserts, chocolate infused foods, and much more. It will be on May 23rd & 24th.
Events
Agriculture and Trade Show
This is a special event to celebrate and showcase the abundant agriculture and farmers who provide rich provisions for us every day. Here you’ll find various cultural dishes (tamales, rice and beans, gibnut, curry goat); children play areas, rodeos, and more. This event will be on May 1st, 2nd, & 3rd.
Belize Carnival
One of the best parts of our September Celebrations is an adrenaline-rushing, high energy event that you wouldn’t want to miss. Partying throughout the streets of Belize with locals and other tourists is an experience you won’t ever forget.
Soca and Culture Fest
Leading into Belize’s Independence Day, this is one of the biggest concerts that showcase soca and dancehall artists from Belize and the Caribbean.
Wahoo Challenge
This is a tournament in Ambergris Caye which is popular for deep-sea fishing; wahoo can be caught all year round but this challenge is set in early January when the chances to catch a wahoo is the highest.
