by Carolee Chanona

Pack your bags for San Salvador! Belizean airline Tropic Air is once again flying to San Salvador from its Belize City base, with a special US$99 introductory fare one-way, plus taxes, throughout the month of February. Central America is a popular region among travelers, but visitors can go from an AM surf in El Tunco to PM snorkeling in the Belize Barrier Reef in just a single hour. Nonstop service between El Salvador International Airport Saint Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez (formally Comalapa International Airport) in San Salvador (SAL) and the Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Acting as yet another vital gateway to connect Central American and Caribbean travelers with Belize as a destination, flight service begins Friday, February 11, 2022.

The jungles, beaches, and volcanoes that makeup Central America combine to make a stunning landscape, and its top resorts take full advantage. Belize, once known as “British Honduras”, is found at the base of the Yucatan Peninsula, hugged between Mexico and Guatemala. Interestingly while Belize is a part of the Caribbean, this is also why Belize is the only English-speaking country in Central America.

And while El Salvador takes home the title of the smallest country in Central America, Belize boasts the smallest population density for the region. Not only is San Salvador the economic epicenter of Northern Central America, but it is also an important trading partner for Belize.

“We see San Salvador as a major destination with a lot of potential.” said Steven Schulte, CEO of Tropic.

The addition of San Salvador to the airline’s route map means a broadening of reach into Belize’s important business and leisure markets. Book direct from Tropic Air here.

Belize’s entry requirements remain the same: test negative for COVID-19, purchase mandatory travel insurance as of Feb. 15, and hold a valid booking with a BTB-certified Gold Standard accommodation or hotel.

Travel regulations and requirements are subject to change as new developments in COVID-19 arise. It is important to visit before booking travel or visiting Belize. Header image of San Salvador by Mauricio Cuéllar on Unsplash
