How To Start Traveling On A Budget In Belize

Do you sometimes find yourself scrolling through social media, and seeing your friend’s vacation pictures? Do you watch many travel vlogs? Do you wonder and wish you could go on such a vacation when everything seems so expensive? Well, I’m here to answer a common question, “How do I travel without spending a lot of money?” – Here are some tips to help you plan your next Belize vacation and travel on a budget.

Travel during “low season” or “off-peak” time

When travelling on a budget it’s more feasible to travel during these times because rates tend to be lower. Low season/off-peak time means that there aren’t many people travelling to a certain country – each country has its own time of year, for Belize, this is from May to November. Rates for hotels, resorts, adventure tours, and certain flights to Belize will be at a discounted price.

Stay at an Inn/Guest House/Bed & Breakfast/Hostel

Throughout the country of Belize, you can find these types of accommodations widely available. They vary in price depending on amenities and services. At an inn, you can find prices around $63-$180 BZD; guest house prices are around $40-$280 BZD, BnB’s are around $150-$300 BZD – we can also include Air BnB’s but these are a little pricier. Hostels are very common in Belize, especially in the Cayes and in the Western part of the country; the prices are around $40-$100 and usually appeal to backpackers. Harbour View House in Belize City Area has some reasonable prices.

Cheap Transportation

Belize is a small country so it doesn’t take very long to reach whichever destination you choose. The longest it will take to reach an area in the country is about 4 hours if you travel on a bus, which is the cheaper way to go. Prices range from $1-$15 depending on the distance travelled.  As well depending on where you stay, some accommodations rent bicycles so you can interact with locals, try various foods, and discover the wonders of Belize.

Independent Activities

Booking a tour with a company isn’t a must in Belize. You can hop on a bus to your district or a general destination, and take a taxi to a specific activity or spot. Everyone is helpful in sharing reliable information. Fees for non-Belizeans to enter certain sites are about $8-$10 USD.

These are basic tips that should help you in planning your vacation to Belize and keep you on a travel budget, see you soon!
