The Black Hole Drop
For the thrill seekers, Caves Branch’s ‘Black Hole Drop’ is a uniquely adventurous and awe-inspiring hiking experience. It starts with a 90 minute steep uphill hike into the foothills of the Maya Mountains and into the upper edge of the sinkhole. The edge of the Actun Loch Tunich sinkhole sits over 300 feet above the basin below, and 200 feet above the rain forest canopy that grows out from its basin. If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, this is the experience for you. Give into exhilaration and bask at the natural wonder beneath your feet! Not to mention, it’s just a short ride back to the lodge for a dip in the pool with an ice-cold drink. Don’t worry, you’ve earned it!
Relax onsite with a Cheese Tasting or Botanical Garden Tour
If you prefer to relax to the sounds of the rainforest, enjoy the botanical gardens or a cheese tasting tour! Are you a foodie? Caves Branch’s Artisan Cheeses are the only handmade cheeses found in Belize that are fully aged in a humidity and temperature controlled ageing cellar. Turned every 48 hours and polished every seven days with ageing up to 24 months, you’ll be thrilled with the outcome. And for those true cheese lovers, their premium aged cheeses have been recognized as “truly superior international cheeses”. Combine the cheeses made onsite with tropical, fresh fruits and bits of carefully baked homemade breads for a true Caves Branch experience.
Ready for both an educational and dazzling tour? Experience Belize’s largest collection of native epiphytes, such as orchids and air plants, at the Caves Branch Botanical Garden! Visitors to the garden have the great opportunity to smell the lemongrass and all-spice leaves onsite. Plus, see the coffee, cacao, papaya, and pineapple growing, at various times of the year, along the sides of the walkways through the gardens. Additionally, as a Non-Profit Organization dedicated to conservation, the Caves Branch Botanical Garden has become the only refuge for local anteaters in Belize.
