The Hotspots On Ambergris Caye That Are Known For Live Music

by Dion Vansen

The town of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye is known for being one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. This means that its nightlife or entertainment sector is diverse with a bit of everything for everyone. As the daylight in the evening begins to wade, many over-water bars and other restaurants in town come alive with live DJs and musicians. The options could be endless, but to make that decision easier for you, let’s share with you some of those hotspots where you can enjoy a bite and some drinks on Ambergris Caye while enjoying some good live music.

Alaia Belize

If you are starting the weekend on Friday and fancy something more intimate and exclusive, then visit Alaia Belize south of town for live Cuban entertainment on their Havana Nights. On Saturdays, you can find yourself back at Alaia’s Piano Bar for their weekly Jazz Nights.

This is another exclusive experience in live music at Matachica Resort’s Mambo Restaurant. End the weekend in a more intimate atmosphere enjoying the best of jazz music.

Elvi’s Kitchen

The iconic Elvis’s Kitchen in the heart of Ambergris Caye is a must to mention. Besides their amazing fine dining, enjoy their jazz night on Thursdays and the best of acoustic guitar music on Saturdays.

Palapa Bar and Grill

One of the most popular over-water bars and restaurants on Ambergris Caye, Palapa Bar & Grill offers live entertainment every day. Each day there is a different band or singer offering a bit of everything for everyone.

Wahoo’s Lounge

This is your place to go on Thursdays, right on the beach within Corona del Mar Hotel. Wahoo’s Lounge is famous for its ‘Chicken Drop’ even on Thursdays starting at 5 pm. Come and enjoy this fun activity and see how people bet on chicken poop, an island tradition that has been ongoing for decades. Meanwhile, a DJ will keep the evening live with the best tracks as you wait for the next round of chicken drop betting. It is a wild experience you need to see!

Blue Water Grill

One of my favorite choices is downtown and by the beach as well. Very popular with fine dinings, such as sushi. It is an ideal place to dine or have some drinks while enjoying live reggae music by local artist Man at Work on Wednesdays. On weekends (Saturday, and Sunday) enjoy the tunes of guitarist Ryan Alfaro while enjoying Sangria specials.

El Fogon Restaurant

This is one of the most traditional restaurants in downtown San Pedro. Known for its good cooking you can also enjoy that delicious meal while listening to Latin music by talented island singers every Saturday.

Sandy Toes Beach Bar & Grill

This water hole is popular for its beach nights on the weekends offering a live ambiance with DJs and musicians. Mondays, when everyone may still be recovering from the weekend, head to Sandy Toes to enjoy some food and the weekly dose of live Reggae Jam music.

Wayo’s Beach Bar

Another favorite overwater bar on the Boca del Rio beach strip. Live entertainment is never an issue at Wayo’s with local musicians and DJs turning the party up from Thursday through the weekend.

Heading north of San Pedro Town from Thursdays through Monday enjoy live entertainment as early as 6 pm. Island entertainers will delight you with Belizean and Caribbean music. Feel free to join them on stage to dance.

No matter where you choose to enjoy some unique island live entertainment, trust me, you will have a blast. Let the fun begin in San Pedro Town!
