9 Romantic Spots In Belize, Perfect To Take That Special Someone

by Larry Waight

Are you looking for romance? If you’re lucky, you’ve already found it and the time is right to take that next step. If you want to impress that person – either by saying “I love you” for the first time or by proposing the right atmosphere is critical and no destination compares to Belize because you’ll have so many choices.

A proposal or declaration of love staged in front of a roaring waterfall doesn’t get any more romantic and if you make this a priority, Big Rock Waterfalls is as impressive as a dramatic cascade of water gets. This 150-foot high marvel is tucked into a pine forest, which means that there are endless private spots for picnicking – or for changing into swimwear if bathing in a pool with the one you love at the foot of the falls sounds like heaven.

Can a sign be romantic? That depends upon why the two of you plan to show up at this quirky, colorful installation that is located along the waterfront in Belize City. If you’re planning to do something dramatic (like pop the question), pick your favorite letter, ask a local to snap a photo of your honey, and then drop it down on one knee. Besides, this photo makes a great “save the date” postcard for an upcoming (destination) wedding to Belize.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley

The area only measures 3-square miles but it is so packed with wonders, it’s a nature lover’s dream. Situated off the southern tip of Ambergris Caye, this scenic marvel is Belize’s oldest marine reserve, and it’s protected by the government, so whether your biggest dream is seeing the reef, seagrass beds, mangroves or observing nurse sharks and stingrays, take your soulmate here.

Laughing Bird Caye

This tiny island off the coast of Belize was once an epicenter of romance – for seagulls, that is. Once the breeding ground for a species known as laughing gulls, the birds moved on when the occasional visitor landed on the shore of this haven and interrupted their canoodling. Now a favorite secluded destination for tourists who crave privacy and abhor crowds, not only are the plants and trees gorgeous but you can take your romance underwater since this is a favorite snorkeling paradise.

Moho Caye is an exceptional example of Mother Nature at her very best. Also called Wild Orchid Caye, couples tend to be awestruck when first beholding this stunning 8.38-acre island offering soft sandy beaches and enough lush greenery to remind one of Eden. There’s an excellent chance that your voyage to this little paradise 9 miles west of the Belize Barrier Reef will be rewarded by the striking seascape just beneath the surface where parrotfish, angelfish, blue tang, and other creatures will be happy to swim alongside you when you’re not enjoying the solitude of this beach.

Can an iguana be romantic? Once you visit this fascinating attraction and learn about these scaly, green creatures’ mating habits, you will be convinced. This conservation project is headquartered at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel and for romantics who want to show off their concern for the Earth, there is no more appropriate place to declare your love of wildlife and the object of your affections.

Not every romantic wants to get all sweated up outside the bedroom so a gentle cave tubing experience at this archaeological reserve is an ideal way to encounter the mysteries of caves that were once explored by indigenous people who weren’t always visiting these environments to declare love. You’ll float on a comfy inner tube into the chambers. Hand holding is not just suggested; it’s recommended.

If you’d like to emulate the sentiments included in the beloved Broadway musical The Sound of Music lyric that says “Climb Every Mountain” to find your dream, this one is an ideal way to express your feelings to the person who shares your passion for fitness and health. Trek to the top; it’s the highest elevation in Belize. A proposal at this rarified height isn’t just romantic – it’s cool!

Caye Caulker is an idyllic stop for couples whose idea of a great way to show their passion is by sitting on a beach, sipping pineapple margaritas, and staring at the expanse connecting the Caribbean Sea to the sky. At the heart of this destination is the Split, an epicenter of amazing music, drinks, and foods in Belize. Here’s the best part: Take the love of your life to The Split and make this symbolic promise: “From this day forward, this is the only split you and I will ever experience.” We promise this works every time!
