When planning a family vacation, it tends to become stressful when trying to decide on activities that everyone will enjoy. Especially if there are small children involved; you need to find activities that will also be suitable and age-appropriate for them. Luckily, we’ve got you covered with a list of exciting but safe, child-friendly activities here in Belize.

1. Snorkelling

Snorkelling in the Belize Barrier Reef is one of the top adventures for both children and adults. You do not need to be a licensed diver nor do you need to know how to swim in order to snorkel. Your kids will enjoy the experience of interacting with the marine life at the Coral Gardens, Shark Ray Alley, and Hol Chan Marine Reserve.

2. Maya Archaeological Sites

From North to South of Belize, you can find at least one or two Maya sites in each district. Belize is known for its unique, eccentric Mayan temples and can be quite an adventurous and educational trip. Kids can even visit today’s Maya descendants, interact with them and see the clothing, jewellery, and other accessories that they make.

3. Wildlife Sanctuaries

Belize is home to an abundant variety of wildlife which we must protect, hence the reason for our wildlife sanctuaries. Three main sanctuaries that children can visit is the Green Iguana Conservation Project located at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel, Blue Morpho Butterfly Farm located at The Lodge at Chaa Creek, and the Community Baboon Sanctuary located in the Belize Rural Valley.

4. Old Belize

Located 5 miles on the George Price Highway, Old Belize is definitely a children’s favourite. They can take a train ride inside and see how Belize used to look back in the day and learn about the different ethnic groups in our country. After which you can all head across the pier to Kukumba Beach; where your kids can swim for the rest of the day and enjoy the huge slides and swings, while you relax on the beach and enjoy cold tropical drinks.

5. Horseback Riding

This is such a fun adventure that your kids will enjoy in the Cayo district. They will be able to either ride around acres of farmland or in the jungle, where they will see the beautiful abundant wildlife that resides here.
