There’s something inherently magical about visiting a location that grants you a glimpse of the past. Whether it’s an ancient temple, or a vibrant village, places seemingly untouched by time make for some of the most memorable experiences. In Belize, there are quite a few such locations. Up for some time travel? Here are some Belize attractions that allow you to do just that when you visit them.

Deep in the jungle of Belize’s Chiquibul National Forest lies Caracol, Belize’s largest Maya site. It spans over 75 square miles – approximately five times the size of modern Belize City. In its center rises Caana, meaning sky palace, which reigns as the tallest standing structure in Belize. Get a glimpse at Belize’s Maya past when you explore this architectural wonder.
Dangriga Town

Belize’s beloved culture capital sits on the coast of the Stann Creek District. Every year, during the month of November, it comes alive with music, food, and vibrant culture for the Garifuna Settlement Day celebrations. Apart from that, though, Dangriga has a small town charm that is reminiscent of days past. Despite being the largest town in Southern Belize, Dangriga’s unpretentious coastal vibe and cultural sights are akin to the quintessentially laidback ‘Belize time’.
Children run along the sidewalks, carefree. Vendors ride through the streets selling their wares. Everyone bids you the time of day as you walk by. It’s the kind of warm and welcoming atmosphere that many might say is hard to find these days.

The Old Belize Train Ride

Have you ever wondered what Belize was like in the past? Well, there’s no need to wonder because the Old Belize Museum gives you a firsthand look at what Belize used to be. This is not your average museum, though. It features a train ride through several eras of Belizean history.
The train will take you through a short tunnel that will leave you feeling as if you’ve actually just time traveled. The designers of this museum went above and beyond to recreate moments in Belize’s past. Enter into what looks and feels like an actual rainforest, complete with the sounds of birds and other wildlife. Nearby, a waterfall rushes, trickling down the rocks. After the rainforest, travel through Belize’s Maya past, followed by a lesson on the once prosperous logging industry. This is an amazing tour for families and anyone wanting a magical Belize experience.
