Belize City has mostly been known to serve as a mere pit stop for first-time travelers heading to their targeted destination of either Western Belize or the cayes. Recently, though, as outlined by Expedia’s 2021 data, this fact seems to be gradually changing post-pandemic. Curiously enough, the data showed that Belize City has become the most searched destination in comparison to other regions, knocking out San Pedro from the top spot. This is evidence that savvy travelers are noticing the value and convenience of making the city their base during a quick trip. With lower hotel rates, a central location, and the convenience of proximity, it’s easy to see why visitors are catching on. In fact, here are the top 3 day trips from Belize City should you wish to visit for a quick weekender trip.

Ambergris Caye is on everyone’s radar, but some may balk at the price tag of actually staying on the island if they’re on a shoestring budget. Luckily, Belize City is a mere 1.5-hour boat ride away, with port calls starting as early as 8 a.m. and the last boat leaving the island at 4:30 p.m. You can spend the entire day in paradise, walking barefoot along the shore, hitting the Belize Chocolate Company or Brooklyn Brothers Bagel Shop before exploring Secret Beach. Or, if low-key is more your vibe, head to Caye Caulker instead, only an hour away via boat from the mainland, and lounge at Koko King or the Split all day.
