Following the CDC’s ease of travel recommendation for Belize—listed as Level 1: Low Level of COVID-19 at the time of writing—the industry shows promise for recovery with health and safety in mind.
Greater Connectivity with Southwest
Southwest first began flight service in early 2017 with its inaugural flight service from Denver, Colorado. The airline then offered a non-stop service from Hobby International Airport in Houston (HOU) and later, added a non-stop service from Ft. Lauderdale. At the onset of the widening COVID-19 crisis, Southwest Airlines first ceased all international flights on Sunday, March 22nd, 2020 as the carrier slashed a quarter of its schedule.
In a press release confirming flight returns, the Belize Tourism Board reiterates air connectivity with carriers like Southwest Airlines being the bloodline of Belize’s tourism industry. The BTB, therefore, welcomes the resumption of flights by Southwest Airline flight because it will make it easier for travelers to enjoy the beauty, the myriad of attractions, and warm hospitality of Belize—now on its path to recovery.
