Who doesn’t like a divine sweet bite? Whether it’s for dessert after dinner or even in the morning for breakfast, grabbing a cinnamon roll, fruity tart or a slice of that favorite pie is a moment to celebrate anywhere and anytime. A moment or a meal without something sweet is said to not be complete. So, if you are a dessert person and are visiting San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye in Belize, these are some pastry shops you must visit and satisfy that sweet tooth of yours while on the island.
Annie’s Pastries
This is a very popular bake shop in San Pedro well known to everyone on the island. Annie’s opens from 2 to 8 pm, except on Sundays, to offer empanadas, banana bread, cupcakes, cakes, and a whole assortment of dessert items. However, their top-selling items are Annie’s cinnamon rolls, coconut tarts, stuffed jalapenos, and dips (chicken and cheese). I would go for their coconut tarts any time, a good choice for an after-lunch sweet treat or evening snack. Annie’s Pastries are located on Laguna Drive north of town but you can look out for their pasty mobile carts downtown which is loaded with their sweet goodies.

French Croissant Bakery

A little taste of France can be found at this dessert shop in downtown San Pedro at the well-known San Cas Plaza just across the local airport. Although they specialize in French bread, chocolate bread, and flans to mention a few, you need to try the top sellers of French Croissant Bakery. Some of the items in demand include croissants in almond, chocolate, and plain, although the sourdough bread and Fraiser cakes are also favorites. I would say the almond croissants and a piece of that Fraiser cake will not disappoint. This pastry shop is one of my favorites and it has a seating area where you can enjoy your sweet bite with a coffee too. The French Croissant Bakery also serves a variety of baguette sandwiches for lunch as well.

The Baker
A classic bake shop located south of town on Seagrape Drive popular with the morning commuters, The Baker opens at 7 am daily with freshly baked bread and sweet treats greeting you at the door. A self-serve cheap ($1!) coffee station and their cinnamon rolls seem to be the main order of the day. If you get there at 8 am, you may miss these goodies and will have to wait until the following morning. The other dessert option making The Baker a favorite is their banana muffins, which I enjoy every time I have the opportunity. Other top baked delicacies are apple turnovers, cheese rolls, and cherry tarts. There is a cozy comfortable seating area inside where you can accompany your favorite pastry with coffee, tea, or a smoothie. If you prefer outdoor seating, there are tables and chairs outside as well.

Casa Pan Dulce
Casa Pan Dulce is the main bakery in San Pedro with unique pastries for everyone. Starting as one of the oldest bake shops in town with over two decades in business, it now has two locations: Laguna Drive, north of town and Pescador Drive, right in the heart of San Pedro. They are known for their customized and decorated cakes, chicken puffs, sweet bread, almond cookies, and cinnamon bread. If you want to have something readily available at home or your hotel, I recommend a loaf of cinnamon bread for your mornings. Find them on Facebook here.
These pastry heavens are within and near downtown San Pedro, and each one of them has its own magical touch. Feel free to visit all of them and try their assorted dessert delicacies.
