Unveiling Belize’s Hidden Gems: Hiking Adventures to Davis Falls and Bocawina Mayflower National Park.

When it comes to natural beauty and biodiversity, Belize is known for its wild landscapes and rich ecosystems. The country boasts plenty of well-visited destinations like the Great Blue Hole and The Belize Barrier Reef. But, there are also various hidden gems that often escape the spotlight. These hold a world of wonders within, too. That includes spots that are perfect for the hiking enthusiast. If you’re looking for underrated hiking destinations in Belize, discover these lesser-known wonders: the captivating Antelope Trail and the thrilling Davis Falls.

Davis Falls – A Unique and Exhilarating Experience

For those who live for thrilling escapades and uncharted adventures, a journey to Davis Falls should top your list when hiking in Belize. This gem stands tall as the second-largest waterfall in the country. It beckons from a secluded haven near Alta Vista Village in Southern Belize. Nestled deep within the rainforest, this mesmerizing location promises an encounter with one of Belize’s most magical natural gems.

To turn your dream of exploring this awe-inspiring destination into reality, book with a local guide like Awe Jungle Excursions. This Belizean family-owned tour company holds an unwavering passion for showcasing the natural beauty the southern region of Belize has to offer at an affordable price. Leading the way is Alejandro Awe, a tour guide who will masterfully transform your visit into an unforgettable experience and make sure everyone is safe. With a guide, your hiking trip can include homemade cuisine, water, soft drinks, and raincoats.

The journey itself is magical and exhilarating. Seated comfortably on a custom-built trailer pulled by a tractor, you’ll traverse through terrains that are not meant for the faint-hearted. You’ll cross rivers, pass by vibrant orange orchards unique to Belize, and journey through the heart of the rainforest. Nature’s beauty unfolds before your eyes, presenting a diverse tapestry of vegetation and captivating wildlife that showcases the country’s remarkable biodiversity. After an hour and a half, you’ll get to do a 30-minute hike through the rainforest up to Davis Falls. After spending time indulging in the Belize waterfall experience, hike back down and stop by the Mayan pools to enjoy a delicious homemade lunch made with love you can taste! And if you want to elevate the experience you can enjoy a swim in the refreshing waters.

Bocawina Mayflower National Park: Antelope Trail

The Bocawina Mayflower National Park sits on the eastern end of the Maya Mountains next to the Sittee River Forest Reserve in Southern Belize. Here you will find several hiking trails that are worth exploring. One of my favorites is the Antelope Trail. This off-the-beaten-path trail is evidence of the beauty that awaits those willing to venture a little deeper into the wilderness.  If you are interested in a self-guided day trip with your friends and family, or even a solo hike, this is the perfect place. The Park fee cost is BZ $10 BZ for foreign guests and BZ $2 for local visitors. Make sure to take enough water, snacks, and maybe even a picnic lunch.
