Vaccination Approval for 5 to 11 Year Olds Could Be A Safe Return to Family Travel

by Carolee Chanona

As the last major group of Americans now eligible for their COVID-19 vaccine, parents looking for a safe return to family travel have one more layer of protection. On Tuesday, November 2, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved pediatric doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. With the year’s busiest travel period ahead with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year, children who began their series of shots this week will be fully vaccinated by Christmas Eve. Now, vaccination approval for this important group could signal a safe return back to family travel.

Since the announcement, over 1 million kids have gotten their first jab. Now, that peace of mind paired with pent-up wanderlust is putting many multigenerational family trips at the forefront of the priority list. “Celebration travel should be something we see more of moving forward,” Jenss says. “Also, there has already been a strong rebound in multigenerational travel which should continue.” Of course, while the vaccine protects against severe illness, continue to practice safety protocols like wearing a mask, sanitizing often, and sticking to open-air, outdoor settings when possible.

On the islands, there’s plenty to entertain with at resorts on Ambergris Caye, like at Grand Caribe and Ramon’s Village. Grand Caribe, with its six pools to splash around in even offers babysitting services, just in case mom and dad are thinking of a little diving day date. Inland, kids will relish new friends at the Green Iguana Conservation Project—San Ignacio Resort Hotel‘s resident modern-day dinosaurs!
