A Destination Wedding’s Resort Buy-Out To Book on Ambergris Caye

by Carolee Chanona

When you think of reserving an entire resort for your wedding, you may associate it with celebrities or the uber-rich and famous. However, with the right property, you may find it’s more attainable than you thought. Welcome to the land of wedding takeovers: buying out an entire resort for an extra level of intimacy and privacy for your special day (or rather, a stretch of days) on a beach in Belize. Although Belize is only a 2-hour flight from the mainland U.S., gathering your loved ones for a celebration outside the bounds of the familiar territory is sure to create special memories for all involved in the destination wedding. Finding the right venue can be tricky—if you don’t know where to start—which is why we’re taking a closer look at La Perla del Caribe. After all, it’s not called “The Pearl Of The Caribbean” for nothing.

Is there anything more romantic than beach-tussled waves thanks to sea-salt-tinged air, watching hand-in-hand as the Caribbean Sea kisses the shoreline? We didn’t think so either. In a place like English-speaking Belize, it’s easy to give in to the sheer romance of the destination, which is why places like Ambergris Caye already have the photographer’s work cut out for it.

La Perla del Caribe has 8 individually owned, partially air-conditioned villas ranging from oceanfront two-bedrooms to massive five-bedroom mansions decorated in a montage of Caribbean, Mexican, North African, and European styles. All units have spacious full kitchens, housekeeping, huge bedrooms with open bathrooms, and private balconies to sea-gaze on the breaking reef of Northern Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Perks Of An All-Villa Resort

La Perla del Caribe’s villas range from two to five bedrooms; with a group, like say a wedding party, they can be more affordable than a hotel. Considering all your guests will be traveling and booking their rooms already, it’ll be easier to take over the entire hotel. Plus, you’ll still enjoy concierge service and a shared pool.

And because you don’t have to worry about other guests, you have a lot of control, flexibility, and even creative freedom. Control with regards to what you’re planning, how late you can party, and more. It also makes it easy to plan all your other events as well. You could literally do everything onsite and never leave. Or if you organize an off-site event or two (like say, a sunset catamaran sail or jungle expedition inland), shuttling will be easy to coordinate.

A few restaurants are within walking distance or, more comfortably, golf-cart distance. However, while you’re all together, La Perla offers an in-room private chef service for a small fee, which feels like even less once split between 10, 20, or even 30 people. Not to mention, the destination itself is beautiful: all named after precious jewels like Opal and Emerald are a contrast to its design interiors, plush with arches, alcoves, and rugs painted in warm tones. Think of it as a home away from home.
