Where To Enjoy Pantone’s 2022 Color of the Year While In Belize

by Carolee Chanona

Every year, Pantone announces their Color of the Year, and this year, Very Peri—a periwinkle blue hue with violet-red undertones—was chosen to “inspire a sense of positive emotion and symbolize the dynamic transformations that have taken place this past year while looking toward an optimistic future.” To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s color experts at the Pantone Color Institute™ comb the world looking for new color influences. And if you look closely enough, you’ll see just what a colorful world awaits in Belize, where Very Peri is just around the corner. Here’s our inspiration for where to enjoy Pantone’s 2022 Color of the Year while in Belize!

Purple Sea Fans, beautiful nudibranchs (like the Purple Crowned Sea Goddess), and peri-hued Great Star Coral are all that one can expect—plus more—when diving or snorkeling the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System. Thanks to bragging rights as the second-largest barrier reef in the world, Belize’s underwater world is bursting with colors, including Pantone’s very own 2022 Very Peri.

A masterpiece from Mother Nature herself, Belize’s skies sheds some light on Very Peri at both sunset and sunrise. Although the coast puts on a show in itself, like the above at Casa Al Mar, don’t skip an opportunity to gaze at a setting or rising sun of a mountainscape while in Belize.

Euphoric Carnival.

Sites of release and exuberance, Carnival in the Caribbean is also an extravagant display of color. Feet skating against the asphalt, hands flung wildly in the air, and at points when the music crescendos, bodies literally jumping off the ground: handmade costumes, including hues like Very Peri, takes to the streets of Belize in September celebrations of every year.

Shades of purple take to fields and meticulous gardens, towering arches along the Placencia sidewalk, and wild overflowing yards of Caye Caulker. It’s a picturesque pigment that blooms nearly all year-round with Belize’s bougainvilleas!

Caye Caulker is lined with pastel-hued wooden shacks, which are just one addition to its unmistakable charm. Not only a mosaic of faces, but you’ll find the sandy streets have a character in themselves—beyond just Very Peri-colored casitas!

Snap photos for the ’gram at the beautiful murals in downtown San Ignacio, adding a splash of the Veri Peri color to your feed. Dubbed “A Painted Conversation”, find this one above at the corner of two local primary schools.
