As Hurricane Beryl inches nearer to the Yucatan Peninsula, several Caribbean islands continue to grapple with the devastation that the storm has left in its wake. In response to this, the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, and many other organizations, have stepped up to the plate and are offering ways for persons to assist with recovery efforts. Here’s how you can help support the Caribbean countries severely impacted by the unprecedented July storm that is Beryl.
Hurricane Beryl’s Impact on the Caribbean
As Beryl makes its way northwest towards the Yucatan Peninsula, damage reports from the Caribbean islands that the storm passed over this week continue to pour in. One of the first countries affected, Grenada saw extensive damage, with the island of Carriacou seeing “total destruction” according to the country’s Prime Minister. Meanwhile, roughly 90% of homes on several islands in St. Vincent & the Grenadines received some form of damage, including many being completely destroyed. Barbados, St. Lucia, and Trinidad & Tobago, though not directly in the path of Beryl, were also severely impacted.

On Wednesday, having maintained much of its strength, Beryl made its way over Jamaica as a dangerous Category 4 storm. Currently, hundreds of thousands of homes in Jamaica remain without power.
According to a report by The BBC, the UN has “unlocked $4m (£3.1m) from its emergency response fund” to help the recovery in affected nations. For those who wish to offer support as well, here’s how you can do just that.
The CHTA Launches Hurricane Beryl Relief Campaign
“Hurricane Beryl has caused significant damage to Carriacou, Petite Martinique in Grenada, and Mayreau, Canouan, and the Union Islands in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” said the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association in a post made early Wednesday afternoon. “Your support is crucial to help rebuild these beautiful islands and support the impacted communities.”
Those wishing to make a donation to Hurricane Beryl relief efforts can do so via the CHTA. The Association also plans to host a relief auction and is asking for donations of hotel stays and activities. Those donations will be auctioned off, with all proceeds directly supporting hurricane relief efforts.
