One Caribbean island has announced its reopening, while another has put reopening plans on hold. Montserrat will reopen to stayover visitors on Oct. 1. However, the island is requiring a five-day quarantine, and visitors must take a PCR test on the fourth day.

“Montserrat has had a total of 31 positive cases since we closed our borders on March 14, 2020,” said Warren Solomon, Director of Tourism. “We follow health and safety protocols as well as indoor masking and social distancing.”

All visitors over age 12 must be fully vaccinated, provide proof of a negative PCR test result taken within five days of arrival, and complete an online preclearance registration form three days prior to arrival. The island remains closed to cruise traffic with no port reopening date at this time.

Meanwhile, the Cayman Islands has put its border reopening plans on hold due to a rise in local Covid cases. The Cayman Islands, closed for tourism since March 2020, had planned to reopen the border for vaccinated travelers on Oct. 14. However, the rise in Covid cases is a “game-changer,” said Cayman Islands premier Wayne Panton. Therefore, a reopening is unlikely for the rest of 2021.
