Ready to unwind and disconnect at some of the most pristine and “wild” places that Belize has to offer? Get lost in nature and enjoy a remote escape at these locations where getting there is a part of the thrill.
Copal Tree Lodge

Located in Belize’s “forgotten south”, Copal Tree Lodge sits outside the sleepy Punta Gorda Town, which is where your journey to this luxe eco-escape begins. While Punta Gorda (or PG) is a four hour drive from Belize City (less if you take the newly renovated coastal road), a domestic flight takes about an hour. From there, it’s a short ride to a modern paradise surrounded on all fronts by nature.

The Snake Cayes

Belize’s waters are dotted by hundreds of islands and cayes, many of which are easily accessible and popular tourist spots. There are some, though, that take a bit of effort to get to, with the payoff being well worth it.

Found 20 miles off the coast of Toledo, the Snake Cayes are just that. They are some of Belize’s most beautiful offshore islands, and simply spending a few hours reveling in their beauty can make for an amazing and remote Belize escape. Crystal clear waters and sugar sand beaches, perfect for snorkeling and barbecuing, await. And thanks to the lack of human traffic, the coral and fish at this remote offshore location are both plentiful and impressive.
How to get there: The cayes can only be accessed by private charter. Book a tour with an operator in Punta Gorda or Monkey River for a relaxing day trip.
Caracol

Belize’s largest Maya site (and one of the most influential cities of its time) is also one of its most remote. The tallest temple at this stunning site in western Belize, Caana, towers over the lush broadleaf forests of the Chiquibul Reserve.

To get to this ancient city, adventurers must make the journey through the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, just south of San Ignacio Town. The trip takes about 2 hours, one way, which makes this destination ideal for a day or half-day trip. Combine it with other off-the-beaten-path sites like the Rio Frio Caves and Rio On Pools.
How to get there: You can access Caracol by driving there (4WD recommended). Or, you can book a guided tour, which is recommended since your journey will be even more rewarding thanks to history lessons courtesy of your guide.
Half Moon Caye

One of the most beautiful destinations in the Caribbean – and one of the most remote – Half Moon Caye sits inside the Lighthouse Reef Atoll, some 50 miles east of Belize’s mainland. There’s a popular saying in Belize that once you’re out on Half Moon Caye, you’re the first person in the country to see the sunrise.

Clear waters and steep dive walls make for spectacular undersea adventures. Meanwhile, on the island itself, verdant littoral forests house majestic birds and other coastal wildlife. Revel in the pristine and mostly untouched natural beauty of this true island paradise.
How to get there: The only way to get to Half Moon Caye is by boat. Hire a charter boat or a dive company to take you out for the day. Or, experience the island to the fullest with an overnight camping trip.

A two-and-a-half-hour drive from Belize City, the ride to Gallon Jug in northern Belize is as long as it is rewarding. Winding roads through green farmlands and lush forests pave the way to Chan Chich Lodge. The luxury eco-resort sits at the heart of the Gallon Jug estate, tucked away inside thousands of acres of Maya forest.
