Ramon’s Village Resort’s iconic winding dock is one of the first to greet you when arriving on Ambergris Caye. Nothing short of impressive, the award-winning hotel continues to attract quality travelers time and again. (Not to mention, the locale is Olympic gymnast Simone Biles’ go-to stay when on the island. Need we say more?)

The caliber, priority on safety, and care that goes into guests’ stay make Ramon’s Village the place to be post-pandemic.

A Greener Stay – Literally

Belize is by no means simply hopping onto a trend when it comes to safer and greener travel. The country’s lack of hotel chains says as much, which makes the experiences of staying at boutique hotels that more special. Ramon’s is a prime example of this, where the bustling town of San Pedro immediately melts away when stepping onto the property. You would never believe you’re staying in the heart of town. Walking down the hotels’ entryway, the looming trees on either side form a cocoon, giving the impression of entering a jungle. No crowds, no noise, just you and the greatly-welcomed cool breeze that seems to play favorites with the resort.

The Ultimate Seclusion

Choose a cabana that is perfectly catered to your aesthetic – whether seaside, beachfront, or jungle. (I personally prefer the latter, but there’s no wrong answer here.) Either way, you will have all the social distancing you need – and a tad more. There’s no need to venture back out into the outside world (though I do recommend exploring the island) since there is an on-site restaurant. Pineapples on the Beach offers exquisite meals all throughout the day, making it easy to enjoy all the property has to offer. Did we mention the restaurant makes its own hot sauce? It quickly became something we requested at every meal, and I must admit we were sorely disappointed we could not take the entire bottle home. (Yes, we asked.)

All relaxed out? The resort also offers paddleboards and kayaks to guests who crave a little more activity during their stay.  The resort also boasts world-class diving tours, as well as other marine-related packages.

On health and safety

Keeping safe is of utmost importance when traveling in a world that is still slowly healing, a fact Ramon’s Village takes seriously. The hotel is currently Gold Standard certified, a recognition they earned via the Belize Tourism Board’s Gold Standard program. The program includes a thorough and exhaustive process that deems an accommodation extremely safe for travelers when it comes to COVID-19 health protocols. Such hotels proudly display the Gold Standard seal wherever they can. This assures travelers there’s no need to worry when enjoying a Belize vacation.

While Ramon’s definitely looks like the luxury resort it is, there is a sense of comfort and belonging that is rare at other resorts of its caliber. In a post-pandemic world where most of us are starved for human connection, it was a detail that was sorely needed – and appreciated. The staff and management treated us like family, a perk we are certain was given to each guest. Out of the turquoise-speckled sea views, first-class suites, and slew of other amenities, this bonus feature was perhaps our favorite.
