Arriving at Belmopan in the morning usually means seeking the best breakfast spots in town i.e. the market! In the building behind all the grocery-selling merchants, you’ll find a row of small restaurants selling an authentic Belizean breakfast. Take your pick and grab a seat, because someone’s mom and pop are about to make your taste buds dance in delight! Heavenly-soft fryjacks, crispy bacon, and of course, beans. A truly balanced Belizean breakfast.

After you’ve taken a walk around the market to settle your food, it’s time for your next adventure: the Guanacaste National Park. Named after the tree, this pristine natural area features hiking trails, an ancient ceiba tree, and a serene river. It’s an ideal spot for a relaxing afternoon surrounded by nature. Bring your binoculars along, because you’ll be spotting some of the recorded 215 bird species in the area! The park is a magnificent way to enjoy a quiet morning and bask in nature. Meditate to the sight of ripples in the river and nearby creatures chittering. You won’t regret it.

For lunch, we’re veering into a different cultural cuisine. At Simple Life Restaurant, it’s all mouthwatering Taiwanese dishes. Enjoy succulent wontons, pan-fried dumplings, and crispy fried chicken. We’re hungry just thinking about it! Belmopan visitors get a first-hand view of how many different cultures thrive in Belize. From Belizean fryjacks to Taiwanese soup to the Garifuna dish hudut. At Wings and Feathers Cafe & Boutique, you’ll find an array of delicious pastries alongside some truly marvelous coffee concoctions. Sip on a caramel macchiato while you peruse the books and jewelry on display. Should you be on the lookout for an otherworldly view and aesthetic, travel a couple of miles on the highway to Belmopan’s glorious Art Box. We’d suggest allocating more than a few minutes here, as the sheer size and number of items all demand a peek! Handcrafted furniture, intricately drawn paintings by locals, and best of all, a breathtaking cafe with a view. Partake in a game of chess or tic-tac-toe on their handmade wooden boards while you enjoy a slice of New York-style cheesecake.

Last on your list is a little further away but nonetheless a must-see. Just a half-hour away from Belmopan is St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park. St. Herman’s Cave, a mesmerizing underground cavern adorned with intricate limestone formations, invites adventurers to explore its mysterious depths while discovering ancient Mayan artifacts. Go cave-tubing and enter the world of Xibalba, the Maya’s underworld. Adjacent to the cave, the park boasts blooming rainforests and the serene Blue Hole, a turquoise cenote surrounded by vibrant foliage. Both sites offer an immersive journey into Belize’s rich geological history and vibrant ecosystems, making them must-visit destinations for nature enthusiasts and explorers.
