Sunset Caribe: What to Expect from One of San Pedro’s Newest Resorts

by Khaila Gentle

It’s no secret that Ambergris Caye’s Sunset Caribe boasts some of the most amazing sunset views on the island. It’s in the name, after all. But beyond the stunning landscapes and bayside views, this modern luxury resort just a couple miles north of San Pedro Town is where contemporary accommodations meet island-time relaxation. Thinking of vacationing in Belize’s #1 tourist destination? Here’s what to expect from one of its newest resorts.

Welcome to Caribeville. Population: Happy

Set two miles north of San Pedro Town, the expansive resort village Caribeville is what Caribbean travel dreams are made of. With everything from elegant restaurants (and even a grocery store) to a fully outfitted spa, it’s a planned community that can easily feel like a vacation within a vacation when you’re visiting Ambergris Caye. On the eastern side of the village lies Grand Caribe – a sprawling oasis of beachfront condos and brilliantly blue pools. Meanwhile, the sister resort to Grand Caribe, Sunset Caribe sits on the island’s western side.

Having opened in 2021  – and still expanding as we speak – Sunset Caribe offers modernity at its finest, accompanied by an unmistakably tropical vibe and bayside tranquility. Accommodation choices range from two story lofts on the ground floor to spacious three-bedroom condos on the upper levels. Each condo, however, is fully outfitted with modern appliances, a kitchen, island-themed decor, and amazing views.

Sundowners and Sweeping Landscapes at Sunset Caribe

Of course, the pièce de résistance at Sunset Caribe is the view at sunset. As evening approaches, be sure to grab a cocktail from the recently built swim-up pool bar and set your sights on San Pedro’s placid lagoon. Watch as the sun sets behind the horizon, painting the sky in a myriad of hues. There’s no doubt you’ll immediately understand how the resort earned its name.

Another way to enjoy Sunset Caribe’s idyllic surroundings? Grab a kayak and head out onto the water. Or, take a dip in the overwater jacuzzi that’s perfectly positioned for enjoying some Belizean scenery. Better yet, book a sunset cruise on a catamaran.

Beyond the Resort: Island Adventures Await

Equipped with an arsenal of golf carts ready for renting, Sunset Caribe also offers guests the chance to explore what the island has to offer beyond the resort. Just a short drive away, The Truck Stop offers everything from live music and games to multicultural eats like pizza, tacos, and pad Thai. Up north, Secret Beach is the place to be for fun in the sun (and water) all day long.

For those seeking to venture much farther than Ambergris Caye, Sunset Caribe’s tour desk has a wide range of excursions to choose from – both offshore and on the mainland. Explore Belize’s ancient Maya temples. Take the plunge into its azure waters. Or live out your luxury vacation fantasies with a breathtaking helicopter tour.
